Relationships for Growth

growth Many times I’ve wished I lived alone near a beach somewhere. Wouldn’t life be easy then? Nobody to disagree with you, criticize you, shame or judge you! But who would I be? Would I grow if my only interactions were with friends, neighbors, colleagues and acquaintances? I could just gather up my toys and go home if they pushed my buttons enough. I’d show them….but would I grow? Would I mature? Would I learn to be conscious in relationship?

I remember once bemoaning the fact that I was living with 6 other family members and a dog while a friend was living alone near a beach in Rhode Island. I questioned how I could be on a spiritual path and evolve with all these people around but I quickly realized that my growth was based precisely on my interactions with them. Taking a good hard look at ourselves in relationship and taking responsibility for our words and actions is the best way to grow up. All of the people in our lives provide us this opportunity 24/7! I think that relationships are the best places to grow.

Cool insight Marina, it’s so true that the opportunity for growth and taking the spiritual road meets us exactly where we are. New circunstances, in turn, offer new opporunities for yet more and newer growth – crowds, solitude, noise, or quietude… all carry the same gift in their own unique manner. Thanks for the great information.
    Good Health,

It’s so funny. Every weekend I’m at the beach I fantasize about checking out….. going off the grid and leading an unconventional lifestyle. Relationships are the most important part of my life. I don’t know what I would be without the people I love.
The beach would be a nice place to take them though.
