Reduce Stress with a Head Massage

puppy massage
Giving or receiving a head massage is easy and can be done at work or at home. All you need is a comfortable place to lie or sit and the healing power of your fingers and some essential oils.

General tension and stress can inhibit blood flow to your head causing headaches, eye strain, poor circulation, hair loss, depression and other symptoms. A head massage provides instant relief.

A head massage will unlock tension, reduce stress and revitalize your energy. Your eyes will relax and look brighter, and a regular massage will even ensure shiny, strong hair by reliving tension in your scalp.

There are many pressure points on the head and face so by using your thumbs and pressing on specific areas, tension will be relieved.

Sinus congestion
Press in the dimple at the inner end of the eyebrow, directly about the corner of the eye.
Nasal congestion
Press in the dimples beside the nose, one finger width away from each nostril.
Temple headache
Press the hollow of the temples, a finger width beyond the outer end of the eyebrow.
Eye pain
Press in the hollow on top of the eyebrows, one fingers width above the pupil of the eye.

Essential oils of peppermint and/or eucalyptus can be inhaled AFTER the above pressure points are addressed. Just apply a couple of drops of oil on the palm of your hands, cup your hands over your nose, and inhale slowly several times. Never apply essential oils on the face or near the eyes.

Massaging a couple drops of peppermint or eucalyptus on the back of the neck or around the outside of the ears can also give relief. Do massage before application to the face, and then wash hands thoroughly.

Peppermint and eucalyptus both contain constituents that are anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and anti-bacterial.

It seems to me that Americans forget about the power of “touch” and massage compared to European cultures. Let’s remember this gift and utilize it regularly with our friends and family.

I love head massages…actually I love any type of massage. There is something very gratifying about getting a head massage. I love being scratched on the back of my neck. Also, when my allergies are really bad, I find myself pushing up under my eyebrow. It works to temporarily relieve the pain.

  2. Mmmm… Head Massages are wonderful! I definitely find that I hold tension at the back of my neck when I am stressed. I will have to try some of the other techniques that you have described!
