Smart eating is possible with some conscience planning before you leave home.
Rather than arriving at the party hungry, eat something low in calories before you get to the holiday dinner or event. You will have eaten the healthy calories and will be less tempted by the calorie laden holiday foods.
Visualize yourself as a person who eats well even during holiday times. Thoughts are powerful. Visualization can strengthen your resolve to avoid overindulgence in the holiday goodies.
Determine which foods you are willing to splurge on and what foods you aren’t going to have. If you love mashed potatoes but aren’t all that fond of dessert, allow yourself to indulge a bit in the potatoes and forgo the dessert.
At the Holiday Gathering
Practice declining foods you don’t want to eat that are offered to you. Check out the whole buffet of food being served so you can plan your choices. Plan to eat small portions until you are satisfied rather than one large meal. This will avoid having your “eyes be bigger than your stomach.”
After you’ve overindulged
Ginger, peppermint and anise are used traditionally to combat nausea and are antispasmodic, antiseptic, and combat indigestion.
Massage several drops of this oil all over the stomach. For internal use, dilute 1 part oil to 4 parts vegetable oil and take 1 capsule before each meal. Several drops can be dropped on the tongue and ingested for immediate relief.
When bloating and stomach upset does occur, use di-gize. Di-gize essential oil relieves digestive problems including indigestion, heartburn, gas, and bloating. The ingredients are: tarragon, ginger, peppermint, juniper, fennel, lemongrass, anise, and patchouli.
