Classic Movie Quotes (In Real Life)

Movie QuotesImage derived from pedrosimoes7

I still find the impact of film in our daily lives overwhelming. There are so many different types of movies out there that speak to each one of us. Many people love to call upon a famous movie line at work, when they’re hanging out with their friends or in the comfort of their own home. Movies are universal and classic film quotes seem to linger forever.

I love the fact that when many people find themselves in a situation that seems impossible they all quote the late Roy Scheider from Jaws. His improvised, ”We’re gonna need a bigger boat,” has made quite an impression on a generations of moviegoers. It’s also number 35 on AFI’S top 100 movie quotes of all time.

People that have had a long day love to quote Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark. It seems, ”It’s not the years. It’s the mileage,” has found quite a home in American pop culture and our everyday lives. If I had a penny for how many times I’ve heard someone quote Indiana Jones I’d be rich.

Along the way some quotes even get lost. Everybody remembers and uses, ”Play it again, Sam,” from Casablanca. The funny part is that’s been misquoted for years. Bogart really says, ”Play it.” Sometimes as a society we just like to embellish.

My favorite director Clint Eastwood has certainly contributed a number of quotes over the years. “Go ahead. Make my day,” was first said in the fourth Dirty Harry film Sudden Impact. That same year President Reagan actually used the quote on the Soviet Premiere Mikhail Gorbachev. Talk about impact on our daily lives!

What film quotes make your day? What experiences bring those quotes to mind? I’d love everyone to share them! “Here’s looking at you, kid.”

  1. I love movie quotes. I think one of the most quotable movies of all time is “Full Metal Jacket”..as harsh a movie as it was.

  2. Marc says:

“Greed for lack of a better word is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed in all of its forms. Greed for life for money for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind…and Greed, you mark my words will not only save Teldar paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA. Thank you very much.”

Michael Douglas as Gordon Gekko from Wall Street

My personal favorite that requires little or no commentary on my part.

2)spoken with frustrated disapproval: “Ah, everythimg’s got to be perfect with you.”

3)spoken with threatening force: “Go ahead, skin it. Skin that smokewagon and see what happens.”

4)spoken with, well, I’ll let this one speak for itself:

Hi Darren, number (2) was spoken by a great hero of mine. Paul Newman as Butch Cassidy to Robert Redford as The Sundance Kid in the movie of the same title. When they were holed up in Bolivia and Butch presents the idea of going to Australia after getting out of the jam they were in. I remember how happy I was when I saw a documentary on the History Channel that revealed the real Butch and Sundance actually survived that day and got out of Bolivia alive. Butch lived until well into the 1920’s.

Thanks and Good Health, see you at the movies!

Howdy Darren. That great and immortal line was spoken by the great and immortal Clint Eastwood in “The Unforgiven”.
Here’s one back at ya. Who said this and in what movie?
“Poor soul, you were just too high strung… I’m afraid the strain was more than he could bear.”

    Good Health,

    Joe

“I notice when you get to DISlikin’ someone they ain’t around for long neither.”

  9. Each as I get up at 6am to go to work, I find myself repeating Scarlet’s quote from Gone With The Wind – ‘I Will Never Go Hungry Again’!

  10. hz says:

Used anytime the art of persuasion is needed

    2. “Stu-u-u-uff!”
Used in response to any ‘what are you up to?’ type question.
